HOSPITAL THOUGHTS

Alone in the dark abandoned by all.
Baby sleeping in the crib,
his tiny chest slightly moving
I wonder
whether I made the right choice
and then, a moment later,
the answer comes in a phone ringing tone –
he’s there –
another voice in the dark,
impossible to see,
whispering nervously,
asking for a shared tomorrow.
The moon goes down,
the night is up.
Morning brings
a homely visit,
a handshake and a hug,
a smile and a tear.
I have surpassed my fear.
